The change sweeping through TSM has taken another dimension as the organization announced on Tuesday that it is withdrawing from North American Dota 2. Recently, the organization exited the LCS in League of Legends and the Rainbow Six Seige earlier this year.
This is coming just less than two years after TSM came into Dota 2 after signing the roster of Team Undying in January 2022. The organization had players like Enzo “Timado” Gianoi and Jonathan “Bryle” De Guia staying at the org for the whole of their involvement on the NA scene.
Before the end of 2022, the organization added other players like Gainullin “kasane” Ilyas, Matthew “Ari” Walker, and Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon.
The team enjoyed success to some extent, winning the DPC NA 2021-2022 Tour One Regional Final and finishing second at the ESL One Stockholm Major in May 2022. However, they had a disappointing performance in Dota 2’s 2023 The International, which was engulfed in a lot of controversies, especially as rumors circulated at the beginning of TSM’s run in Dota.
Reports say that the then-sponsors FTX were the major reason why the roster was signed, just to please FTX. However, the roster remained even after an eventful end to FTX’s reign at the organization, although it was eventually dropped exactly one year later.
After TSM’s departure from the region, the roster continued to play in ESL One Kuala Lumpur, as Team Undying. Meanwhile, the whole team are staying on the roster for now.
Meanwhile, a lot of fans are expecting that TSM could make a change to its Dota operations, just like the change to its league operations by migrating to a new region.
TSM’a slot in the LCS was sold in September for $10 million with hopes of recording success elsewhere. However, the organization’s potential destination, if they decide to move to a new region, could be Europe or Southeast Asia.
