The New York Subliners defeated Seattle Surge in the grand finals of CDL 2023 Major One on Sunday evening, thus lifting the Call of Duty League trophy, although the franchise does not seem likely to host another event this season.

NYSL was previously awarded the hosting rights of the CDL 2023 Major Four and is scheduled to host in April 2023. While the competition will still go ahead, it won’t happen in New York City anymore.

This is because the original venue for Major Four was the Kings Theatre, the same place it was held last year. NYSL got to the grand finals after going through the upper bracket beating Minnesota, Florida, and the LA Thieves.

However, the big expectations of the fans were bashed after losing to the Thieves in the grand finals. Meanwhile, the capacity of Kings Theatre was the major reason for moving the major to another venue.

The Kings Theatre is deemed too small for the CDL Challengers Open. Helix Esports facility in Foxborough, Massachusetts, was the venue for last year’s Challengers event, but the venue is not considered because of perceived disagreements between NYXL and Oxygen Esports.

Meanwhile, in the gameplay, The New York Subliners beat Seattle Surge 4-1 in best-of-seven matches. Seattle was close to a 1-0 lead from the start, with 248 points out of 250 needed but failed to register the required final points in the final seconds.

However, New York took advantage and snatched the lead, having rounded up the 250 points needed.

New York took advantage of the momentum to lead in the Mercado Search and Destroy. The Subliners took a 5-2 lead and were in cruise control until Seattle fought back to a 5-4 map count, but Seattle couldn’t see it through, and Subliners took a 2-0 lead.
