With the 2023 Call of Duty League’s Major Three cycle gone, the Minnesota RØKKR have made a huge call on their roster in the aftermath events of the disappointing outcome of that competition.
It is the 2015 CoD world champion Attach who becomes a victim of consequence after Minnesota announced on Tuesday that the player has been benched and replaced by a rookie.
Amateur player Kevin “Fame” Bonanno joined Minnesota in July 2022 as a substitute, and he will become the fourth player in RØKKR’s lineup ahead of CDL Major.
The organization finished in third place at the CDL’s second Major of 2023 held in Boston last month. However, the team has failed to impress since then, having gone on a winless run through the online qualifying matches for Major Three.
They were beaten by the Los Angeles Thieves this month at the OpTic Texas Major, which keeps their losing streak to eight matches.
Meanwhile, Fame will be under immense pressure to live up to the billing of displacing Attach. His CDL debut will be when the RØKKR plays Florida Mutineers on Saturday, April 1, in the Organization’s Major Four qualifier match.
Despite being placed eight on the CDL Points standing and 20 points ahead of Vegas Legion, Minnesota must remain part of the top-eight franchises on the table if they want to qualify for CoD Champs at the end of the year. Head coach Loony does know the importance of every match that Minnesota will play henceforth.
“We gotta make sure that we’re staying competitive throughout this entire stage and throughout the rest of the season. The first step is bringing in Fame. We’re going to continue to evaluate the team throughout this stage after the home series, and if further change is needed, we will be making it because, again, we want to be competing for championships.” Minnesota coach Loony said.
