American video game designer Jeff Kaplan has said that creating a sequel built upon a new campaign may not be as risky as people think.

Overwatch 2, being a sequel in name, has a nearly symbiotic relationship with its predecessor.

According to reports, installments of the franchise will share a PvP space. Also, the skins and progress in the original title will carry over to Overwatch 2.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Kaplan said Overwatch is a being a true sequel rather than a PvE-focused expansion. According to the vice president of Blizzard Entertainment, it isn’t just DLC or expansion based on the sheer volume of content the game will bring.

While noting that he plays a lot of games, Kaplan said he couldn’t think of a single DLC or expansion of such magnitude.

According to game reviewers, Overwatch 2’s main appeal is its PvE experience, which is drenched in lore about the characters’ past, present, and future. It’s hard not to feel the urge to dive deep into its compelling universe because it feels human; it is easy to identify with.

Speaking further, Kaplan said many people who are deeply engaged with the characters because the heroes have been put in the forefront. He said players would love to engage with the characters in a way that is a little bit less high pressure to them.

He added that the company felt that the delivery of one massive feature to their fans would “be to blow out the co-operative side of the game.”

Periodic doses of lore in different forms had already been released by Blizzard Entertainment. Earlier in the week, Mercy was the star of a short story titled “Valkyrie,.” It showed gamers a glimpse of Dr. Ziegler’s internal struggles.

It could be recalled that the announcement of Overwatch 2 was complemented with a thrilling eight-minute cinematic called “Zero Hour.” It brought to bear a much-anticipated reunion between many of the franchise’s star characters.

With the aim of blending storytelling with gameplay, Overwatch 2 has promised to improve on the project by satisfying lore-hungry fans.

According to Kaplan, the game will contain a complete story experience like what is usually witnessed in any triple-A blockbuster game.

Game fans can’t wait to see the improvement.
