After six months from its last update, Overwatch fans will be seeing a new batch of information at the end of the month.

Game director Jeff Kaplan revealed that the latest Developer Update video is already recorded and would be released in the weeks to come.

In anticipation of the video’s release, Kaplan, during his visit to the Blizzard Forums, said the developer team would attempt to update fans more often.

He also said that the developer video scheduled for release toward the end of the month would reveal updates about vital information about the state and the future of the game.

The videos usually contain a cursory look into a specific element in the game. For instance, the Sigma’s Developer Update looked at his backstory and explained his kit. Also, the video on the Workshop was about the decisions and insights behind the addition of the feature.

The videos which are usually released with some regularity to announce changes rework and new features are decreased in frequency.

Recall that the most recent video that showcased the latest hero to join the roster, Sigma, was launched in July 2019.

Pundits have already said the decrease in the frequency of updates could be due to the developer team’s focus on creating a sequel.

Recall that Kaplan had announced in November that Overwatch 2 would slow down updates for the first installment of the franchise. However, they have been balancing the patches in the meantime, which could have warranted their video.

It was also gathered that the new update could bring about a significant change for Overwatch.

Streamer Jeff “Emongg” Anderson had said that significant news for the franchise would be made in “a couple of weeks,” but declined to say what exactly it was.

According to speculations from parts of the community, the news could be the addition of hero bans.

Since there is no official statement from Blizzard pointing toward that, fans are kept waiting for a couple of weeks for the developer team to break the silence.

Meanwhile, Overwatch’s Lunar New Year event already has the Year of the Rat, which will last until Feb. 5.
