G2 Esports has emerged winner of the North American Rocket League Spring Series after a dominant clean sweep against NRG in the grand finals.
G2 whitewashed their opponent 4-0 in the encounter to complete an incredible run in the competition.
It could be recalled that before G2 took first place, they had played NRG twice in the main bracket of the tournament, and the champions only dropped two games in the tournament.
En route to the final, G2 marched past their very little competitors, with only a few of them giving them a run for their money, with just three games dropped throughout the entire tournament.
Their road to victory began with a 3-0 win over Rogue, defeated Team Envy 3-1, and two big clashes against NRG to win the competition.
It could be recalled that G2 was on the back foot 0-2 down against NRG during their first meeting in the bracket, but the champions came back into the game and took it 4-2 through reverse sweeping to seal their place in the finals.
The loss sees NRG dropped and beat Rogue in the loser’s finals. This gave them another chance to set up a rematch against the champions again.
G2 automatically went 1-0 up because the qualified for the final through winners’ side, and they utilized the advantage by not removing their foot on the gas.
Dillon “Rizzo” Rizzo and his team picked up game two at 3-1, but G2 battled back in game three.
No one could gain a hedge in the first overtime battle with the ball batted across the arena. An error of a botched hit from NRG eventually cost them the game as Jacob “JKnaps” Knapman got the space to slide through and score to increase his team lead to 3-0 to wrap things up.
With the win, they go home from the Spring Series with $23,000. This is also their second straight NA championship.
