Riot Games on Wednesday announced the addition of four-time world champion Faker as its first inductee into the newly formed League of Legends Hall of Legends. The Unkillable Demon King’s contributions to Riot’s esport, in-game mastery, and being a source of inspiration for millions of esports fans across the world has made him the first League inductee.
Riots most recently established the Hall of Legends to honor the most exceptional players in League history. The Hall of Legends was first revealed in Riot’s 2024 State of the Game update, as a way of recognizing the players and coaches whose contributions have significantly improved growth and evolution of esports.
Interestingly, the legendary Korean mid laner was speculated by many to be the first inductee. However, Faker’s selection wasn’t straightforward as it seems, as there was a panel of judges representing regional leagues and global esports communities who evaluated a list of induction candidates.
Riot gave the 20 nominees that the panel, in collaboration with Riot staff across League’s competitive regions, were presented and voted for by 50 global panelists to pick the final inductees.
Faker’s achievements in and out of the game have all been well documented and it all started in 2013 when he joined T1, then known as SK Telecom T1. He grew to become the most popular face and name in the League, esports and also outside Riot.
The Korean star has won four World Championship titles and also the oldest competitor to win the Summoner’s Cup. He is also the record holder for the most Worlds titles in League history. This is in addition to 10 LCK trophies he has, which is the most by any player.
Faker is no stranger to inductions into Hall of Fames as in 2018, he became the first League player to join ESL’s Esports Hall of Fame. Speculation will continue on who will be the second inductee into Riot’s Hall of Legends, which will likely be revealed a year later.
