The first Call of Duty League LAN event of the 2024 season ended on Sunday, January 28, and the first champion is the Toronto Ultra, who have been crowned champions with a flawless record in two game modes.
Toronto became champions of the competition, having earned impressive results against a top-ranked and previously unbeaten Atlanta FaZe twice on January 28. These results and performances helped them scoop the 2024 CDL Major One trophy in Boston.
The team only lost two Control maps in their shocking 13-2 map count at the CoD tournament. They also went undefeated in both Hardpoint and Search and Destroy throughout Major One.
Interestingly, Toronto lost their last grand finale in 2023, a lopsided 5-0 loss to the New York Subliners in the grand finals of CoD Champs 2023, which led to the offseason acquisition of the 2022 world champion Envoy.
In the CDL Major One online qualifier, the Ultra went 6-1 and approached the weekend’s tournament after a dominant 3-0 sweep of New York on January 19.
There, Toronto easily dispatched both the Seattle Surge and Minnesota RØKKR in Boston to secure a winners bracket showdown with Atlanta. Atlanta, before that matchup, had gone 7-0 in the Major One qualifiers.
FaZe went on to hand Toronto their first map loss of the tournament, but the Ultra walked away with the 3-1 series victory, which included a 6-1 win in the Search and Destroy.
Atlanta progressed to defeat OpTic Texas for a second time at Major One. While Hardpoints were close, Toronto took the Search and Destroy, taking both 6-2 despite FaZe’s SnD strengths.
Invasion control was the only map Atlanta won against Toronto in the grand finals, with a 6-0 record in Hardpoint and a 5-0 record in Search and Destroy at CDL Major One.
Meanwhile, the online qualifiers for Major Two of the 2024 CDL season kick off on Friday, February 16.
