T1 will be going to the 2022 World Championship for the third time in the last four years after recording a narrow victory against DWG KIA in the semifinals of the LCK Summer Playoffs.
T1 only needed a victory to be part of the teams featuring in the Worlds, and they won the closely competed clash against DWG KIA.
T1 maintained a consistent form from the beginning of the 2022 professional League of Legends season. This has made them one of the teams expected to secure tickets to the Worlds.
But they got it in a hard way on Sunday.
In the series in which T1 nearly let their ticket to Worlds slip out of their fingers, they convincingly won their first two games but allowed DWG KIA back into the game.
After their opponent roared back in games three and four, there was a threat that T1 could lose with a potential reverse sweep.
But T1 persevered and won the fifth game of the match after adapting their strategy and finding success in a far-different fashion from their first two wins of the series.
T1 needed only 50 minutes to wrap up games one and two, respectively, but the late game in game five took 45 minutes, just five minutes short of the duration of the first two games, to secure their Worlds ticket.
Meanwhile, game five had less aggression, and there was no single kill by either team until the 25-minute mark. At the end of the day, T1 outscored DWG KIA to put a capper on the five-game victory.
After advancing to the LCK Summer Finals, they will clash with Gen.G on the other side of the last four matchups. There will also be a rematch of the Spring Finals between T1 and Gen.G scheduled to be played on 28th August.
T1 could even help their seeding provided they win the grand final match. With a win, they would qualify for the World Championship as the number one seed out of Korea for the third time in franchise history.
