The developer and publisher of the blockbuster battle royale video game, PUGB, is yet to expand the action in Esport with a four-event worldwide series.

After a successful 2019 Global Championship, the developer is launching the PUBG Global Series (PGS). This is in a bid to expand on its competitive scene and cash in on the action.

The PGS will now be made up of four events, which will end with the PUBG Global Championship.

It is no doubt that Fortnite’s World Cup and the League of Legends World Championship are among global competitions that enjoyed immense success in 2019, which broke individual prize and viewership records, respectively.

As part of its plan for 2020, the company today posted the development on its website.

The PGS, which will be split up into four events, will be hosted in major cities around the world in April, July, October, and November.

The tournament will feature 32 teams. The larger prize pools from the tournament will be supplemented with crowdfunding.

The PUBG Corp further revealed that the final event of 2020 is the PUBG Global Championship, while the first three events will serve as both major live events and qualification tournaments for the PGC.

The company also stated that regional leagues like North America’s National PUBG League (NPL), will now be a qualification route which will determine which teams will qualify for the PGS.

The game outfit also said each of the first three tournaments would be qualification tournaments that will give tickets to those who will participate in the Global Championship.

Meanwhile, the top four teams from 2019’s Global Championship, T1, OGN Entus Ace, OGN Entus Force, and first-place winners Gen.G have gained automatic qualification into the newly formed PGS which holds in Berlin German in April 2020.

The 28 remaining slots will be battled for via the regional qualifiers, which commence in February 2020.

As part of a money-spinner, PUBG players’ contribution to the PGS prize pool will be through purchasing in-game items, as the new cosmetics are now available for each of the four events.

The company also said it would reveal more information on regional qualifiers in January.
