Teams from the Chinese region could be getting the home advantage for the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational competition, an occurrence that could aid the Chinese region in producing the fourth consecutive Mid-Season Invitational Champions.

It’s not a new thing that the Chinese teams have dominated League of Legends competition overtime, but the region hasn’t hosted a single MSI competition in eight years.

However, that would change next year as reports say the MSI 2024 is reportedly being hosted in Chengdu for the first time in eight years, although Riot Games did not confirm the reports. The last time the MSI was hosted by China was in 2016, in Shanghai.

That tournament was dominated by Faker and the SK Telecom T1, with the latter taking home the trophy. The Korean Superteam beat Royal Never Give Up in four games in the semifinals, while CLG took out Flash Wolves to reach the finals.

LPL has been the dominant team in the MSI since 2018, although G2 Esports won the trophy in 2019, while RNG has won three of the last five iterations of the tournament.

Now, there is a new format for the MSI, and for the first time in history, the competition now allows two representatives from every region to attend the tournament.

In this year’s iteration of the competition, Chinese team JD Gaming eased past Bilibili Gaming to take home the title in their quest for the ever-elusive Grand Slam, which could come to fruition with a win at the 2023 World Championship.

Some of the iconic MSI teams are JDG and BLG, and there are other top seeds like T1, Gen.G, G2 Esports, Cloud9, and MAD Lions.

Meanwhile, both BLG and JDG will be in action when Worlds 2023 continues on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 2 a.m. CT.
