The Swiss Stage of Worlds 2023 will start on October 19 with a lot of star players and teams on display, and ahead of the competition, players and teams review, Gen.G’s mid-laner Chovy is already looking out for one European player who “stands out” in his eyes.
Chovy said he is only impressed by one player despite admitting that the West has some pretty good mid laners in the West. G2 Esports’ Caps is the player who has earned his praises and one who will have the opportunity to showcase more in South Korea as he and his G2 teammates get set to participate in Worlds 2023.
Chovy said that he noticed the player after he scrimmaged against the Caps and has since been hooked.
“Since it’s Worlds, I scrimmed against Caps. After facing him, I felt that he stands out, particularly among the players in Europe,” Chovy said.
Chovy’s first duty will be in the first round of the Swiss Stage, as Gen.G will be facing Vietnamese GAM Esports, while G2’s first opponents will be Dplus KIA, although, depending on the results, there is a possibility that Chovy and Caps will face each other on Summoner’s Rift at Worlds 2023.
It will be a potential rematch between the two domestic champions, as Gen.G and G2 already met at the Mid-Season Invitational 2023, which Chovy won 3-1.
The upcoming Swiss Stage of the tournament has a lot of exciting series, thanks to the new format, which makes this year’s championship different from the previous League of Legends World Championships that featured a Group Stage of four teams drafted into four different groups, with the best two teams advancing.
The new Swiss Stage will make it competitive for participating teams as a team must get three wins in order to qualify for the playoffs, while the eliminating and qualifying series being best-of-three.
