DRX has lock up last LCK playoff spot of the LCK Summer Split with a convincing win over Kwangdong Freecs on Sunday.
The win means DRX secured the LCK’s sixth and final playoff spot of the LCK tournament.
In the final match of week eight of the LCK Summer Split, DRX lock horns with Kwangdong Freecs, with the play-off spot at stake for the latter.
This was because the Korean team needed a win to earn the ticket. At the end of the day, there will be only one winner, and that was DRX.
The straightforward 2-0 victory also earned DRX a spot in the postseason while directly slamming the door on Kwangdong in the process.
This was because it was a must-win for Kwangdong, who entered with a surface-scratching record of 6-9.
A win would have kept their playoff dreams barely alive, but they are mathematically out of the race. This is because they can’t catch up with any of the top six teams in the league before the regular season ends next week.
Since there are few matches left on the schedule for them, they can’t even progress through a tiebreaker.
DRX cleanly took care of business in game one, but the second game was largely in favour of Kwangdong Freecs until the 29-minute when DRX claimed a Mountain Soul and Baron buff on the heels of a three-for-zero teamfight victory.
Despite being down in gold throughout the game’s majority, DRX kept themselves in the game because of their control over neutral objectives.
As soon as they claimed their final neutral objective of the game, an Elder Dragon, at the 36-minute mark, a clean ace to close out the match was only a formality.
What’s significant in the victory for DRX was a composition of nearly the same team in both victories. The only exception was jungler Pyosik, who played Xin Zhao in game one and Trundle in game two.
