The game between OpTic Gaming Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Guerrillas in the Call of Duty League 2020 Los Angeles Home Series held at the Shrine Auditorium, and Expo Hall peaked at over 66,000 viewers.
According to EsportsCharts, the result averaged around 38,000 viewers throughout the competition.
With the Chicago Huntsmen not in attendance, the competition witnessed a moderate decline in viewership in L.A.
The Dallas Empire emerged winner of the Home Series after defeating the Minnesota RØKKR 3-2 in the grand finals. During the final, most viewers peaked at 66,951. The next to it was the game between Atlanta FaZe vs Minnesota, peaking at 63,730 viewers, while OpTic vs Dallas peaked at 58,038.
According to reports, three games played on the second day of the tournament had the highest peak with consideration to the tournament format of the CDL, which placed higher stakes on the second day than the first.
Meanwhile, the last weekend’s viewership dropped in contrast to other CDL events held over the past couple of months. They include the London Home Series, which had over 111,000 viewers a few weeks ago.
EsportsCharts further stated that the absence of Chicago Huntsmen at the L.A. Home Series event was a noticeable one with eight of the 12 CDL franchises competing at each Home Series tournament.
This is because they are the most popular team in Call of Duty. Pundits are therefore blaming their absence on the viewership decline.
The champion, Dallas Empire, is now sharing one tournament win with the Atlanta FaZe and the Chicago Huntsmen following their triumph at the L.A. events.
Atlanta and Chicago are therefore tied in the first place with 90 CDL points with 8-1 record. The Empire is behind them with 80 CDL points with a 7-5 record.
The RØKKR which has 70 CDL points and a 7-3 record completed the top four.
Next on the CDL calendar is the Home Series that will be hosted by the Dallas Empire. It is scheduled to hold on March 28 and 29 at the Toyota Music Factory.
