Dropped NRG VALORANT roster’s coach, Coach Chet, has opened some can of worms about some of the hitherto unknown issues to the public about some of the team’s deals in the past.

Coach Chet was removed from NRG’s VALORANT roster on Monday, July 15, and on the same day, he made a stream where he made public some of the behind-the-scenes issues at the organization concerning money and players’ buyout clauses.

The American coach stated that he paid for some players’ buyout clauses amounting to five figures, although he didn’t disclose the actual amount.

Chet said he paid the buyouts for the duo of Ethan and Demon1 when they both moved to the roster from Evil Geniuses last December while predicting doom for the roster for the next season.

“Honestly, they’re f***ed for the next season, so I don’t care. Yeah, esports is ruthless…I can say this as this doesn’t matter anymore… I gave up a little bit of money to pay for Ethan and Demon1’s buyout; It is what it is, so that sucks. It wasn’t a lot of money. It was like a low five figures,” Chet said.

He went on to admit that he did not know his next line of action despite being willing to remain at NRG. He said the organization wasn’t supportive in that direction, forcing him to stay, although he did call the offseason crazy.

A move to Counter-Strike 2 is a possibility, as he has experience coaching CS: GO teams before joining NRG’s division in 2020. The American coached NRG on the CS: GO scene, and he was also in charge of teams like EG, 100 Thieves, and OpTic Gaming on that level, too.

Meanwhile, NRG’s 2024 season has ended after placing eighth in the Group Stage of Americas’ VCT, with the team looking for moves to change the trajectory of the roster.
