Ahead of the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season two series, which kicks off on Saturday, April 17, High Coast Esports has released its roster and exited Dota 2 entirely, citing monetary concerns.
The organization had signed former Chicken Fighters roster helmed by Adrian “Era” Kryeziu and Rasmus “Chessie” Blomdin after entering Dota at the start of season one’s DPC regional league.
With a 3-12 record, the roster finished last in the upper division and subsequently relegated to the lower division for season two. That resulted in a shake in High Coast’s commitment to the scene by releasing all five players, and the management team stepped away from Dota entirely due to financial problems.
Speaking on the development, High Coast co-founder and CEO Robert “GREVEN” Gavelin pointed out that things don’t work out the way you want them to sometimes, and it was one of those times he was sad and ashamed that the organization couldn’t keep the train going. He added that it is hard to move on without fuel.
The latest development has left fans of various organizations and stacks more skeptical that Valve will ever deliver on its promise. The American video game developer had promised to support teams and players by releasing branded team bundles, which were supposed to be available during season one of the DPC. Now that season two is already underway; they are yet to see a single set of in-game effects, sprays, emotes, loading screens, or team custom chat wheel lines.
Although, none of the now former-High Coast players have said anything about the move. As things stand, they likely to adopt the Chicken Fighters moniker again to play in their first match of the season against Team Bald Reborn scheduled for April 17.
Things could change before the tournament kick-off.
