Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro returned to Sentinels’ VALORANT roster to take the sixth-man role, swallowing his pride and embracing the possibility of not playing a single game. According to him, winning an international event is more important than anything.

The VCT Americas Kickoff media scrum started on Wednesday yesterday, and it was there. Then, Zellsis spoke about taking the sixth-man opportunity at Sentinels in the offseason.

Taking that role wasn’t for a lack of offers, as he had offers to play in the Pacific or EMEA regions. However, the job security available at Sentinels and the likelihood of lifting a trophy made joining up with Sentinels a better option, although without guaranteed time on the server.

“I knew coming in as a sixth man there was a chance that I wasn’t going to get to play. I kind of came to terms with that when I made that decision. Obviously, it hurt really bad; watching the guys scrim makes me want to play even more. I feel like no matter how my career goes, in the end, if I haven’t won [Champions] or a Masters or both, I’ve failed. During my entire esports career, I was always chasing the riskiest option to win. I had to swallow my pride when I made my decision this year.” Zellsis said.

Zellsis also says he has no regrets in taking on a sixth-man role instead of pursuing a starting job.

During the offseason/preseason stretch, Zellsis had plenty of time to play with his Sentinels teammates, and he filled in in different roles at more than one offseason event. He helped Sentinels win their first piece of hardware in a while at the AfreecaTV VALORANT League last December.

Sentinels will face LOUD on February 17 in their opening game at the VCT Americas Kickoff event, which starts on February 16.
