Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker has mutually terminated his contract with the North American organization Cloud9. The announcement was made after the organization, and the player agreed to sign the release, which means that the player will not be a member of Cloud9 henceforth.
Cloud9 will start looking for a replacement to fill up the roster in earnest, although there is no immediate change to the team’s roster.
Names have started flying as possible trialists for the spot at Cloud9, and one of them is Marved, who previously was with OpTic Gaming. Marved doesn’t have a buyout at OpTic, although he has been released. The player hasn’t featured at professional VALORANT since last year.
As for Yay, his quality is undoubted, and he will continue to search for a team before the Americas league starts.
Cloud9 is the first major team to make a change to their roster this year before the end of the first international event of the year. Cloud9 have already been eliminated from the second round of the VCT LOCK//IN tournament that started in February after they were beaten by DRX on Feb. 18.
Cloud9’s next tournament will be the Americas region international league, which starts on March 26 and conclude on May 28.
Elsewhere, G2 Esports has started its 2023 League of Legends competitive season in a convincing manner after winning their first LEC shield.
They defeated MAD Lion in the final of the Winter Split and ended the winter Split without losing.
The team has also qualified for the 2023 MSI, slated for London in May. Furthermore, G2’s win becomes revenge after MAD Lions recorded back-to-back victories in 2021. The final is G2’s third LEC final on a stretch, and they dominated the Rift in the first two matches.
Yike’s gank and Mikyx’s roams saw G2 shut MAD Lions down and hold control of the Rift.
In the end, it was a 3-0 scoreline, the third time in a stretch that the LEC Split Final will finish with a 3-0 scoreline.
