World Cyber Arena: Everything you need to know

Who isn’t excited about the upcoming World Cyber Arena Tournament of 2015?

The event on the 17-21 December in in the growing northwest Chinese industrial city of Yinchuan, is causing huge excitement in the world of eSports and the betting with Dafabet is likely to be equally lively.

This year’s prize pool has been augmented to a record $650,000 which has been on the radar of the established elite teams all year. There have been a series of qualifying games preceding the main event which has further extended the tournament’s addictive reach throughout the world.

The winner will need to finish best of the top 16 competing DOTA 2 teams. They will get to play against each other in the main event with a winner of the whole bunch taking home approximately $375,000. In simple terms, a heck of a lot of money but who are the serious contenders for the dosh?

The top three teams from the China Pro qualifiers will be moving through to the main event. These prestigious teams are LGD Gaming, CDEC Gaming and Invictus Gaming. Each outfit is world class and will indubitably reside in the top 15 teams.

From the Global Pro qualifiers, American Pro, Europe Pro and SEA Pro, the six top teams will be qualifying to compete in the WCA tournament. So far they are Summer’s Rift, Not Today, Team Secret, Virtus.Pro, MVP Pheonix and TNC Gaming. Of these, Virtus and Team Secret look to have the all-round strength to be among the leading candidates.

There is just one spot that will be allocated for the Chinese Open qualifiers. Another four places will be reserved for the Global Open qualifiers and there will additionally be two Wild Card teams competing which will make things even more interesting. So far, Wings Gaming, Team Leviathan, Alliance and Execration have qualified but as of yet we do not know who the AM Open qualifiers and Wild Cards will be.

There are double the number of competitors (16) compared to last year which clearly demonstrates its growth in popularity. Out of the competitors in 2014, only three so far have qualified for the upcoming WCA 2015, LGD, Alliance and Invictus.

The WCA 2014 winner, Newbee, didn’t make it through to the top three of the China Pro Qualifiers which left many observers predictions in tatters and underlined how quickly power is shifting with new talent coming through. The most exciting prospects are arguably the two China Pro qualifiers, Virtus and Team Secret.
