The elimination game between KRÜ eSports and Cloud9 featured Abyss getting into the VCT map pool for the stage two playoffs. It gave fans the opportunity to see how a lot of professional players fall into their doom.
The regional debut of VALORANT’s newest map, Abyss, happened when the VCT Americas stage two playoffs kicked off on Wednesday, July 17. This map is one of the trickiest, as agents automatically die off when they fall over the edge, which happens.
Two playoff teams—Cloud9 and KRÜ went into the game with C9 picking Abyss as their map pick and unfortunately for them, two C9 players were the first victims to fall in two different instances.
C9’s Vanity was the first to fall during Round 12 of an intense two-on-two situation. The VALORANT IGL was about to use his Omen blind, but the step he took back was the mistake he made as he did not realize how close to the edge he was.
He then tried to use the Shrouded Step to teleport back, but it was rather too late, leaving his teammate Moose alone to get the two last kills against KRÜ in a clutch move. Moose’s effort was very vital in ensuring that Vanity’s fall didn’t come at a huge cost for C9 in the round.
The next fall was Moose in just two rounds later, although his fall was intentional after C9 lost the pistol round and being at a gun disadvantage, which almost gave KRÜ’s Heat an ace.
Moose’s plan was to collect an ult orb, run away, and walk off the map before anyone else got killed, a plan which worked perfectly as it denied Heat’s ace but also denied the KRÜ players from snagging another ult point.
Eventually, C9 lost the first map on Abyss and the entire series to KRÜ. Ultimately, the game gave an invite to see how pros are working around the new VALORANT map.
