The opening game of the VALORANT Champions tournament gave a huge display of what to expect for the rest of the competition. It started off with a Group B fixture that was already hyped as a big clash, and it lived up to the hype.

The match tested the ability of both teams with a good display of skill and strategy, as Gen.G faced Sentinels. Both teams had faced off in the VCT Masters Madrid grand final where Sentinels won but this time it was the team that was on home turf that dominated the fixture.

Gen.G was straightforward in their approach on their way to a 2-0 win to avenge their VCT Masters Madrid grand final loss.

The North American team struggled to handle the aggressive approach and teamwork of the Korean squad. Gen.G duelist T3xture stole the show, punishing Sentinels, and it wasn’t long before the world VALORANT giants fell behind, trailing the game.

The North Americans trailed throughout the series that saw Abyss debut on the international level. It was from there that the intensity was set as maps went into overtime.

Gen.G will face Team Heretics, who defeated FunPlus Phoenix in their own game, which was also a thrilling encounter. Gen.G against Team Heretics is a repeat of the Masters’ Shanghai Grand Final, but aside from a chance to prove mettle and status, a spot in the upper bracket plus a chance to move closer to the playoffs are on the line.

Team Heretics are the underdogs in the fixture against a Gen.G team that is considered the most consistent and strongest in the world, although the EMEA representatives believe they can avenge their Masters Shanghai loss.

However, the game between Sentinels and FPX is a must-win lower-bracket fixture in Group B, and the loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
