TI 6 Team Preview: Digital Chaos

USA-based Digital Chaos are one of the younger teams in Dota 2, having been assembled just after The International 5 last August. Their current roster is very different from the one last year though and features the only CIS player to have played for an American organization – Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok, who joined DC in February from Team Empire. The team lost four of their players during the March transfer period, with American rivals EG snapping up Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling and Kanishka “BuLba” Sosale before the transfer lock-in.

DC survived, however, and were lucky enough to sign Aliwi “w33” Omar and Rasmus “MiSeRy” Filipsen, who had both just won the Shanghai Major but were deemed surplus to requirements by Team Secret. Signing David “Moo” Hull from Team Archon and Martin “Saksa” Sazdov from Mamas Boys completed the roster as it is now.

DC are officially the second best NA team after eliminating their rivals compLexity Gaming in a thrilling 3-2 clash in the North American Qualifier for this event. One of the newest teams, they are a successful blend of experience in the form of MiSeRy and Resolut1on and relatively new players.

MiSeRy has played on every Dota level and as the most experienced, the Danish Offlaner assumed the role of captain and drafter. The role was something with which he was not familiar and he is still adapting to it. He tends to ban popular heroes from the meta, but also ones against whom he doesn’t like playing, rather than counter pick. A switch to play as a position 4 Support was another of the changes to which he needed to adapt.

Despite his young age (19), Resolut1on has been on the pro scene since 2013 and is known to Dota 2 fans from his spell with Team Empire, where he played the Carry role. As a Carry for DC, his Drow Ranger and Slark have been particularly successful over the last few matches.

Saksa is another talented youngster and he prefers to play laning supports. While DC like to use both aggressive and defensive Supports, Lion has been a recent favourite of theirs and he is usually played by Saksa, who has been the difference in several games.

w33 has a very high individual skill level and is one of the best Invokers in the game, but he tends to struggle with heroes with whom he is not comfortable and his performance suffers accordingly. Still, he is a solid playmaker and the star of the team.

DC are a young and talented outfit, but compared to most of the teams at TI 6, they haven’t been around long enough to demonstrate a consistently high level of play. They certainly showed that they are able to do well against some of the best teams in Manila though and should not be written off too quickly.
