Two teams have already qualified for one of the biggest CS2 tournaments of the year just few days into the Asian and Americas RMRs for the PW Shanghai Major 2024. The two teams in question are The MongolZ and Rare Atom.
The MongolZ entered the PW Shanghai Major 2024 Asia RMR as heavy favorites to qualify, and they did it in two matches against Alter Ego and DRILLAS, making it to their third consecutive Major.
However, in contrast, Rare Atom qualification was a surprise even though they had a seeming easy route to qualification with wins against GR and TALON. Rare Atom will attend a home Major in China, while kaze will be playing in his first Major since 2019’s IEM Katowice.
In the Americas, RMR big names and favorites Liquid and FURIA are in the 1:1 bracket in the early stage despite being the favorites to make it to the PW Shanghai Major 2024.
Liquid lost their opening game to Wildcard before they bounced back to thrashed KRÜ 13:2. Elsewhere, FURIA also towed a similar path losing to Legacy in overtime in their opening game. However, FURIA easily dispatched Case to recover before things go messy in the early stage.
FURIA will face BOSS next. BOSS were close to making it 2:0 bracket against Complexity.
The fairytale story so far is involving streamer ohnePixel’s team DRILLAS whose Major hopes are still alive. They have managed to keep the quality of the CS up to a decent level to edge past Lynn Vision in the opening match.
They also won a map against The MongolZ, although they eventually lost to the heavy favorites. After falling to the Lower Bracket of the Asia RMR, DRILLAS play FlyQuest next.
It’s a huge test for DRILLAS who face arguably the best team remaining in the tournament. Beating the Aussies is surely a tough test but should they do so, it definitely will be one of the best CS2 esports stories of the year.
