The League of Legends fan base received one of the biggest shocks on Monday evening when one of LoL’s most influential names announced that he was stepping away.

League of Legends global head of esports Naz Aletaha has spent more than a decade in her position but she has come to the end of the road after she announced that she is leaving Riot and also stepping down from her role in the next months.

Aletaha, who has spent over ten years in the company’s flagship esports program, announced her exit on X in an article. Although Aletaha has been on a sabbatical since February, she still insists the decision wasn’t an easy one to make despite feeling the need to move one.

“I’ve decided I’m ready to start a new chapter in my career. This decision wasn’t easy, but it’s the right time for me to explore new horizons.” Aletaha said.

Meanwhile, she revealed that she will still be of help to the LoL Esports team in the coming months during the transitionary period before her total exit. Furthermore, Chris Greeley who was in charge of the LoL Esports head position while she was on sabbatical, will continue in the role. Greeley has been with LoL Esports for the last two years as the head of strategy capacity.

Many of her colleagues and former colleagues from Riot Games poured in their tributes in the aftermath of Aletaha’s announcement. This included the game director for League, Pu Liu, who described her as a fantastic partner, while the head of VALORANT esports for Riot, Leo Faria, claimed that it was the end of an era.

The LoL Esports continues to experience changes in recent years, and this one, being one of the most prominent, will leave a lot of fans anticipating what’s next for the game’s esports division.
