G2 skipper HooXi has taken time out from the CS2 LAN event at the IEM Dallas event due to personal commitments relating to his sister and thus opened the door of opportunity to North American player Stewie2K, who will make his CS2 LAN debut next week at IEM Dallas after replacing the captain HooXi.
Although his addition has been in the offings for the last couple of weeks with multiple hints from G2, the addition of Stewie2k to the squad is on a one-off basis. The confirmation was made as the team’s roster was revealed for the ESL CS2 event on Friday, May 17.
This was followed by another announcement on social media by G2 on X revealing HooXi’s absence as a clash with his sister’s wedding. The player himself also said he won’t be totally away from the event as he will continue to monitor even from the venue of the event.
Meanwhile, 26-year-old Stewie is returning to LAN competition in esports after entering free agency back in March 2023. When he left Evil Geniuses, he went on to feature in the VALORANT both as a player and content creator. He also played in NA CS2 tournaments with Mythic before moving on with PGL Copenhagen attendees Legacy.
Meanwhile, G2 has had an inconsistent season in the last couple of months, and thus, he has a lot of settling in to do and uplift his team.
Despite making it to the playoffs of all tournaments they have played in so far in 2024, they are yet to win a trophy in CS2. Their last final appearance was at the IEM Cologne back in CS:GO. Meanwhile, Stewie and G2 will face Falcons in their opening IEM Dallas campaign on May 27.
