Fnatic has been forced into making an emergency substitution for the 2023 LEC Season Finals after Oscarinin picked up an injury. This has seen Fnatic contact a former player, Wunder, who will be stepping into the organization’s League of Legends roster.

The update was revealed on Monday, August 28, barely 24 hours after Fnatic beat Excel Esports to knock them out of the tournament, thus securing themselves a spot at Worlds 2023.

According to Fnatic, Oscarinin is scheduled for surgery this week for a hand injury he played with against Excel, which rules out of the game against Team BDS on September 2.

“To provide an update, @OscarininXD suffered a hand injury earlier last week, which many of you noticed during yesterday’s match. Whilst he performed unaffected yesterday, Oscar will have surgery early this week and, as a consequence, will sadly miss our series vs. BDS.” The statement read.

With a slot at the Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage up for grabs with the game against Team BDS, Fnatic has been forced to turn to its former top laner, Wunder, for the match against Team BDS. There is also a chance to secure participation at the final weekend of the 2023 LEC Season Finals in Montpellier, France, at stake in the match versus Team BDS.

It’s not all doom and gloom for the loser of the fixture. Even though they won’t play in the final weekend, they will have to play in the Worlds 2023 Qualifying Series instead.

The decision to go for Wunder in this trying situation isn’t surprising, as the Danish veteran has a number of LEC trophies to his name. He also won the Mid-Season Invitational in 2019 and reached the final of Worlds that same year with G2 Esports.

Wunder departed Fnatic on May 12 after a disappointing first half of the year 2023, which saw the team make changes that brought in Oscarinin before Noah and Trymbi joined in June.
