2023 Call of Duty League (CDL) Championship winners, the New York Subliners, have parted ways with player Priestahh. The organization made the announcement on Tuesday, just one month ago, after their big win.
Subliners and Priestahh couldn’t reach an agreement on the contract negotiations and thus leading to the departure of one of the reigning COD world Champions. After NYSL confirmed his exit, they wished him well and stated that he will always be remembered as a significant part of Subliners’ history.
Priestahh recorded his first world title success with NYSL after coming agonizingly close twice with 100 Thieves in 2019 and Atlanta FaZe in 2020 as runners-up.
The player went on to tweet that the departure was a difficult one and that he would soon reveal why he and NYSL parted ways.
“The best season I’ve had in my career, and I’ve been released. Definitely, a hard pill to swallow, but I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be back. I might make a short video of this process so people can have a little bit more of an understanding of what happened. Appreciate anyone,” Priestahh said.
This is the first time in the history of the competition that the champs will change rosters before the next LAN, asides from the times it was done to accommodate mandated changes in team size.
It is very difficult to see a defending champion in the CODL change their roster for any reason, and this may affect NYSL going forward in their bid to remain consistent as winners.
With the player’s exit, the Subliners may be forced to sign former Seattle Surge player Sib. Sib has been severely linked to New York. Sib was named a CDL All-Star in his rookie season in 2022, although he still remains one of the most undervalued players in the CDL.
