Team Liquid has finally broken its four-year trophy drought after they won at the Elite League Season Two in Peru, giving them momentum ahead of The International coming up in a few weeks.
The tier two event didn’t have some of the biggest Dota rosters like Team Falcons and Gaimin Gladiators, but they still had to beat 1win in the final to secure the title.
The best-of-five series was shared between both teams as Team Liquid was led to victory by mid-laner Nisha who had 14 kills for the team who stepped up from the lower bracket. This win banishes the memories of the near misses from previous years including when the team finished in third at the TI in Singapore in 2022 followed by three straight major finals where they lost to Gaimin Gladiators.
The last one was at the TI finals in 2023 when they lost to Falcons but the team’s last win in any competition was at the ESL One Germany where the squad defeated Natus Vincere in a competition that was held online during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Their last offline triumph was at MDL Macau against Evil Geniuses, five years ago. Interestingly, Boxi and Insania are two members of that ESL One winning squad that are still together, forming the longest-running core in Dota history.
Team Liquid will hope they can maintain that winning form as they turn their attention to the upcoming TI 2024 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The team got a direct invite after their consistency this year, albeit they will still have to do more to beat the likes of Falcons, Gaimin, and Spirit if they intend to lift the Aegis of Champions. It will be for the second time in the organization’s history if they do win it, but first, preparations must start now.
