Five-time CS:GO Major champion Dupreeh is Heroic’s fifth CS2 for the rest of 2023 after returning to active CS competition after a four-month period on Vitality’s bench.
Heroic announced Dupreeh as their fifth CS2 player on Monday to fill the big shoes left by cadiaN, who was Heroic’s in-game leader and the face of the whole project. However, there is a doubt if Dupreeh will take on the captaincy responsibility that cadiaN shouldered or if Martin “stavn” Lund, who was the secondary caller during cadiaN’s stint, will take the role.
Meanwhile, dupreeh’s status and achievement background make him an obvious better pick for Heroic. The 30-year-old Dane had some of his best years during his stay at Astralis between 2016 and 2021. He quickly built a status as one of the best entry-fraggers in CS:GO, winning four Major championships next to gla1ve, dev1ce, Xyp9x, Magisk, and Kjaerbye once at Astralis.
Dupreeh still remains the only player who won five Major championships in CS:GO, and he did that after winning the trophy of the BLAST Paris Major in May before he was benched at Vitality. Even Despite being dropped, he revealed that he still had a lot more to offer.
“I still feel I am on the top of my game and will spend my time figuring out what’s up next. I would love to win my sixth Major in my hometown [Copenhagen] next year, but winning a Major is not easy. I would need to find a team and an organization who share my ambition, professionalism, and willingness to sacrifice to achieve a common goal.” Dupree wrote on social media in June.
Dupreeh was benched at Vitality after the arrival of Shahar “flameZ” Shushan in June. He was not short nor shy of suitors after that, as he was linked to possibly joining TSM.
