Gen.G has made history in VALORANT after getting a huge result out of their clash with Team Heretics at the weekend in the Masters Shanghai. Gen.G defeated EMEA representatives, Team Heretics, to become the first team from the Asia-Pacific region to win a VALORANT Champion Tour international event.
The result finally gives Gen.G a significant achievement this year after their final loss to Sentinels in a game where the North American representatives had to come back to win 3-2 at the Masters Madrid just two months ago.
Gen.G overlooked the disappointment and came back stronger to qualify for the playoffs, beating all the teams they faced in the knockout and ending the playoffs with a perfect score.
In the first round, they got past Fnatic before beating G2 Esports in the semis and Team Heretics in the grand final.
Meanwhile, Gen.G won the upper bracket final, and moved into the last match of the tournament with a map veto advantage. Gen.G picked Breeze and went ahead to ban Bind and Sunset. This selection left Team Heretics playing a map that they were not comfortable with and also at the same time removing two of their best maps.
Team Heretics played for three consecutive days going into the fixture, the Masters Shanghai Grand Final. They didn’t have enough time to practice both Breeze and Split. In the first map, Gen.G won after beating TH 13-6 on Breeze. TH gave a good fight in their next two games as they reached the match point by winning both IceBox and Ascent 13-9.
Gen.G dominated and won Lotus to force a fifth map, where Gen.G finalized the job of denying the APAC region its first title.
Gen.G have boosted their chances of making it to the VCT Champions later in August this year having won Masters Shanghai and finished second in Masters Madrid.
