G2 has somehow managed to maintain its streak in the LEC after recovering from an upper-bracket disappointment. Led by Caps, G2 won the victory against one of the fans’ and bookmakers’ favorites, Fnatic.
Fnatic have been impressive at the LEC Summer Split playoffs, but somehow, they failed to climb over their rivals. Fnatic did put up a good fight all through their playoffs as they finished in fourth place in the regular season.
They managed an upper-bracket win over G2 initially in the season on July 22 in a barnburner upper-bracket final, which saw Fnatic winning 3-2. G2 went on into the lower bracket to face Team BDS, although they dispatched the team quickly 3-1.
However, on Sunday evening, they got revenge with a spectacular 3-0 victory in a clean sweep from G2, who turned around the first game to claim Baron. They also beat the repeat comp in game two, although it was contributed to by a capitulation by Fnatic despite having gathered 9,300 golds in 22 minutes
Meanwhile, G2’s Hans Sama finished the series with huge statistics of 18/3/16 KDA before going deathless on Ezreal in the opening game. He only died once in game two as Jhin while helping push the comeback with an impressive 8/2/5 in game three. The result confirmed G2’s world spot and, subsequently, their LEC dominance.
Meanwhile, in the LCS on Sunday in a matchup for veteran League of Legends, a player broke Wildturtle’s LCS record. As team Liquid chased a sixth LoL Worlds.
Top laner Jeong “Impact” Eon-young put in an MVP performance in Liquid’s 2–0 win over Immortals but he also did break a record after becoming the player who has played the most LCS matches in the region’s history.
The game played on July 28 was his 630th appearance in the LCS Impact, surpassing Jason “WildTurtle” Tran’s record for the most games played in the North American competition.
