After resting on the shoulders of a stand-in player to win the IEM Dallas 2024, G2 Esports is now looking to sign another CS2 star to fill in the roster. Stewie2K was instrumental as the organization won the IEM Dallas 2024 with an inspiring final performance.

The organization revealed they won’t make Stewie2K a permanent player in the roster as they are now looking to sign a North American Counter-Strike 2 star. Contrary to popular reports, it’s not the Smoke Criminal.

Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa, a Guatemalan CS2 prodigy from M80, is in talks with G2, but it’s not certain whom he is coming in for on the European roster.

Stewie2K was the first North American player that G2 acquired in CS2, showing that they don’t have a history of having North American players. However, the recent performances by malbsMd and his stats are worth risking for.

The 21-year-old Guatemalan has averaged a 1.32 rating, with a 91.8 average damage per round, 0.84 average kills per round, and 1.59 impact. Fortunately for G2, M80 is still rising in the Americas region, so it could be easier to prime Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa away from the team as they are hardly a top team.

Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa performed well at ESL Pro League Season 19 where they came 17-20th before finishing 13-16th at IEM Dallas 2024. He has remained consistent in the last six months.

Meanwhile, the G2 has begun its BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2024, but it was not the starting result they would have hoped for with a loss to Team Spirit.

Some have linked the start to the absence of the team’s best player in the form of m0NESY. M0NESY got into London late because of visa issues. Meanwhile, with the summer break in CS2 approaching, more of the rumours are expected to intensify with the confirmation of moves.
