Finally, Outlaws Entertainment has followed its decision to drop esports after an organizational rebrand less than a year ago to completely shut down. Outlaws Entertainment was the home to the Houston Outlaws Overwatch League team, but the Texas-based organization has revealed that it couldn’t build a sustainable business model, forcing it to shut down.

This was revealed on social media at the weekend in an X post where they appreciated the fans who believed in the project until its collapse.

“Since our inception seven years ago as the Houston Outlaws, we have experienced an extraordinary journey filled with unforgettable moments. Thank you, Outlaws Nation. We were proud to have you as our community and will miss you as we all venture forward,” the Outlaws statement said.

Outlaws ran business with Overwatch Outlaws as well as a Rocket League outfit Team AXLE, although they also lasted two seasons after they were released last October. The Houston Outlaws were previously under OpTic Gaming’s Infinite Esports when they had their opening season in the OWL back in 2017.

They didn’t do much until their major season as a squad in Overwatch in 2022, where they finished in third after losing to eventual champions Dallas Fuel. In 2023, the team played their last season and the OWL’s last season by making it to the grand finals, where they lost to Florida Mayhem 4-0.

The former president of the organization and the current Evil Geniuses chief executive, Chris DeAppolonio, spoke of his tenure at the organization and tagged it a special time.

In June 2019, The Outlaws was acquired by Immortals, although they also sold it to Beasley Broadcast Group four months later. Immortals’ involvement in the OWL through the Los Angeles Valiant forced the sale. Beasley was at the helm of affairs until they released the Overwatch team and focused entirely on content creation.
