FaZe Clan has secured one of the most memorable Counter-Strike grand finals of recent history after claiming a 2-1 victory at IEM Sydney over Complexity, although they needed a double-overtime on the third map to win The Dish.
From day one till the final day, it was not easy for FaZe, who had to do it the hard way after losing to GamerLegion and subsequently dropping straight into the lower bracket. The lineup led by karrigan upped the tempo after that and never looked back, winning out the group, the playoff bracket, and the grand final.
FaZe lost on Overpass to Complexity, who was hoping to win North America’s first CS trophy in close to five years, but made a comeback on the second map of Nuke. FaZe did a third on Ancient.
FaZe Clan went in front after a brilliant performance from Rain, although Complexity’s hallzerk also dropped 33 kills as Complexity fought hard to bring the half back. Complexity went from 3-10 down to level the map at 12-12, as they forced overtime in the only three-map series on the main stage.
FaZe’s win denied EliGE his second IEM Sydney win and saw karrigan, rain, and Twistzz lift the Sydney Dish for the second time. FaZe will be back to base on Monday as the first championship-winning team in CS2.
Meanwhile, Team Liquid has brought back Brazilian Counter-Strike guru zews, a former player who previously coached Liquid lineup between Nov. 2016 and Dec. 2018.
The revelation comes after news broke that Liquid had dropped their previous Counter-Strike head coach, Damian “daps” Steele, leaving the future of their entire European adventure in doubt.
Since his stint at team Liquid before his departure, zews coached Yeah Gaming, MIBR, EG, O Plano, and Fluxo in elite-level CS.
