China’s first-ever Champions trophy has been registered with the VALORANT Champions Tour as Edward Gaming defeated Team Heretics in one of the most competitive finals in the history of the competition.

A record-breaking performance from the star sniper KangKang helped them to a 3-2 win over the European representatives, Team Heretics. EDward Gaming’s star sniper and duelist KangKang recorded 111 kills to break the running player kill record in the history of any VALORANT best-of-five VCT tournament.

He did this using his usual Neon, Raze, and Jett picks as he averaged 22.2 eliminations in each match, on his way to the MVP award of VALORANT Champions 2024.

However, EDward Gaming didn’t have it easy on their way to the win as they conceded the first map as. Benjyfishy showed what he is capable of with Cypher plays and crisp aim. The Chinese roster equalised, dominating Sunset and winning it with a 13-4 scoreline. They also maintained the energy on Lotus and on Bind.

While the whole game was close between the two teams, Team Heretics was only able to drag the series to a decider after a 13-11 win on map four. EDward Gaming bounced back strongly on Abyss, but lost momentum in the midgame. Team Heretics tried to steal that opportunity for a final push, but ED Gaming got a win in the last two rounds to become champions.

EDward Gaming coach, Muggle mentioned that his previous experience at the LA Champions in 2023 was a motivating factor.

“Last year at LA [VALORANT] Champions, I was there as an audience, and that moment gave me power. We worked day and night every day. Using that power and the teammates we get here,” said Muggle.

S1Mon, who is the only Taiwanese player on the Chinese roster, only joined them last month, but he has fortunately become a VALORANT Champions trophy winner.
