Akros Anti-Cheat has taken down one CS2 pro talent during a series. Swedish CS2 pro talent Joel “joel” Holmlund was active as his BC.Game roster faced B8 in the CCT season 2 Europe Series 7 when he got banned by the anti-cheat system after detecting him.
This is coming less than a year after Joel was embroiled in a controversy as he was suspended by ESIC for match-fixing. His suspension only ended earlier this year although he did spend time with TSM and 5w to regain form before a return to the server.
Unfortunately, Joel’s ban hasn’t only stained the hard work he put in to return to competition but also has put his entire BC.Game team is in a difficult position as multiple CS2 tournaments have swiftly run to ban the whole BC.Game teams from their competitions. Some of these competitions include CCT, United TwentyOne, and the European Pro League.
In a similar vein, BC. The game has quickly removed Joel from its active roster, although they also claimed that they will support Joel during these times until there is substantial evidence presented to them.
BC.Game, coached by CS:GO legend GuardiaN, have confirmed that they have started their independent investigation into the allegations. Despite Akros Anti-Cheat confirming that the allegations aren’t a false positive in this instance, there is still no specific cheat announced that Joel is accused of using.
Reactions from the community have trailed Joel’s CS2 ban with many pros lending their two cents to Joel’s ban although not many are surprised knowing how controversial a figure he has been in the CS2 community.
However, many of the reactions have been from the teams and players he recently played and since joel’s previous teams like the BC.Game, TSM, and 5w are mostly competing in online events against Tier 2 opposition, it’s not surprising.
