The Chiefs have ended a six-year wait to win the LCO championship by reclaiming the trophy on Sunday.
They had to prove their mettle by holding off a resurgent Pentanet.GG, in the game, lost their first map of the split.
In battling for the trophy for the fifth time of asking, they triumph in a 3-1 battle at Margaret Court Arena to win and achieve their aim.
By virtue of the success, the Chiefs have secured a spot in the 2022 World Championship.
The Chiefs last won in the League in 2016, which was also the early OPL days.
The blue and black had been consistent this season, returning to the top again.
After narrowly missing the Mid-Season Invitational in Split One, the star-studded squad made amends at DreamHack Melbourne months later in a four-map clash.
The Champions had shown their willingness to win the title as they stormed to a quick 2-0 lead off the back of two 25-minute wins on the Rift.
Not giving up, Pentanet.GG flipped the script and ended the “27-0” dream for the Chiefs.
The battle went into the fourth game, and it was the closest of all. All thanks to PGG’s star Korean jungler Choi” BalKhan” Hyun-jin, who managed an ice-cold Baron Nashor steal, which kept the trailing team in the balance.
The real difference maker was teamfights and veteran combo James” Tally” Shute and Quin” Raes” Korebrits, who once again proved himself in the longest map of the series. The performance of the veteran ( 26/8/19) earned him the most valuable player award.
Speaking on the victory with Dot Esports, Tally explained that it was an ecstatic moment for the team.
He further explained that their bans in game one caught them off guard, and they also misread game three.
“Based on our scrims, we focused on teamfights, then Pentanet did a complete 180 and focused on scaling. They picked well, so we had to draft differently in game four,” he added.
