Kwangdong Freecs coach Jang “Cain” Nu-ri may be returning to North America if reports brewing are anything to go by. The veteran League of Legends coach was in South Korea the last time.

This time, he’s been linked with a move to the LCS with 100 Thieves

After spending the last year of his career in South Korea, a veteran League of Legends head coach is reportedly making his return stateside to rejoin the LCS with 100 Thieves.

If the deal goes through, it will be the first time since 2017 and 2020, when he was with Team Liquid, that he will be returning to the region. He was also with Cloud9 in the North American region.

The 36-year-old took a season break from the pro scene after he left the LCS before returning to Afreeca Freecs in 2021.

He didn’t get any favourable results at his time with two different rosters as they had early back-to-back elimination from playoffs while ending the 2022 LCK Summer Split in seventh. However, his time at Liquids was the most prominent one when he had a roster that had Doublelift, Impact, Xmithie, CoreJJ, and Jensen.

With that roster, he had one of the strongest rosters seen in the NA in recent times, making it to the final at the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational and winning two LCS championships. 2020 wasn’t the best for him and his team Liquid roster, as they finished ninth in the spring split. He was recast in another position by Liquid and replaced by former caster Joshua “Jatt” Leesman as head coach for the 2020 Summer Split.

Meanwhile, Cain will not have the opportunity of working with 100 Thieves starting mid laner, Bjergsen, who retired in April after a disappointing 2023 Spring Split. That will serve as Cain’s first duty, to fill the game plan hole left behind.
