An underwhelming 2024 season has seen BOOM eSports drop its Dota 2 roster from the organization umbrella in what has been painfully anticipated.

The roster, which is purely a South American squad, will continue to play together, albeit under a new name called Team Waska, after they announced their departure from the BOOM Esports organization. The roster posted their decision on social media on Tuesday, stating that they were open to working for another organization.

The current situation at BOOM Esports especially with the crumbling of the organisation has generated a lot of debates among fans.

Fans had issues with the decision of the Indonesia-based organization to set up an SA squad even though the previous SEA lineup had decent success. The 2022 roster was highly regarded as one that pushed BOOM into the limelight among international opponents during its prime.

Despite the phenomenal season in 2022, BOOM didn’t keep their best roster, and they have been made to pay for it since then, as it has been all downhill. Even when they moved to the SA region, it never worked out, just like when the North American powerhouse, Evil Geniuses, also attempted it and failed.

Meanwhile, BOOM failed to give any further news of the organization’s plans and future arrangements but it’s an assumption that BOOM is already planning on the next Dota 2 season. Every team who failed to make the International 2024 (TI13), have their next move cut out as they have to move next to recruit prospective players for the future.

Many fans hope that BOOM will return to and compete in SEA next season with many potentials in terms of talents and competition. Meanwhile, Team Waska remains an unsponsored team competing in SA region but should they become better in upcoming qualifiers, an esports organization should snap them up anytime soon.
