Gen.G seem to have put the days of uncertainty behind them after they made some roster information available on Wednesday with the retaining of star League of Legends mid-laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon for 2024.
Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon contract renewal is in addition to the signing of jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, support Son “Lehends” Si-woo, and top laner Kim “Kiin” Gi-in. Bot laner Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan joined the organization in 2020 before becoming a part of the main team two years later; he is the last piece of the jigsaw for Gen.G for the 2024 LCK season.
Former T1, Bilibili Gaming, and DRX skipper Kim “Kim” Jung-su will be the head coach of the team and assisted by Kwon “Helper” Young-jae and Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong.
The announcement comes right on time for the fans of the organization who have been waiting for the announcement of the new roster since the departures of Chovy, top laner Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, and support Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong on Nov. 21.
Go “Score” Dong-bin, who was the previous head coach, and his assistants Won “Mafa” Sang-yeon and Kim “Museong” Moo-seong left the organization at the same time despite the fact that Gen.G performed well in 2023, winning the LCK Spring and Summer Splits.
Unfortunately, the team lost to Bilibili Gaming in the lower bracket semifinal of the Mid-Season Invitational as well as exiting at the quarterfinals of the 2023 World Championship.
Although the team has been shredded into pieces after Gen.G parted ways with Peanut, Doran, and Delight, they all have reunited under the Hanwha Life banner for the next season.
Gen.G, in a statement on Wednesday, Nov. 29, said that the team will take on the 2024 season with optimism and unwavering determination.
All eyes will be Chovy and his new teammates in comparison to how their predecessors will perform under their new banner.
