A big change has hit one of the iconic teams in South America, Dota 2, which will reflect in how the 2024 season will look after Evil Genius’s entire roster entered agency. One of the major reasons behind this development is the fact that the roster had a rough performance at The International 2023, leaving the organization uncertain with regard to the future amidst layoffs.

Evil Geniuses’ South America, social media manager, explained that the entire Dota 2 roster would not continue with the organization from Wednesday, Nov. 1. This is just barely a year after moving their Dota operations to South America, and this means that all five players that they moved to SA with -Pakazs, Chris Luck, Wisper, Matthew, and Panda— will have to look for new opportunities although they may also choose to stay as a team.

On the same day, EG saw a lot of layoffs happen in the organization as the global creative director Antonia Bonello and vice president of operations John Jung were also let go. It is a continuation from what started last month after the organization let go of several individual players like SonicFox.

Prior to now, EG’s former manager Guashineen had hinted that she wasn’t sure if EG would parade a Dota 2 roster in 2024 as it was looking unlikely that they would acquire a new roster, especially after all the layoffs.

The development means that the two top-performing SA rosters from the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit are now free agents after the release of beastcoast’s Dota lineup on Oct. 29. However, the only difference is in the fact that Beastcoast revealed that the org will still be active and committed to the SA Dota scene despite releasing the players.

Officially, EG continues to remain silent on its potential exit from Dota after 12 years on the scene they joined in 2011, winning TI5.
