Ahead of the launch of Counter-Strike 2 this summer, two Polish CS:GO teams have made an impressive feat and broken a huge record. ThunderFlash and PGE Turow went head to head in best-of-five series in the grand final of the Polish Esports League on Sunday, June 18.
In the aftermath of that game, a record-breaking 173 rounds were played, meaning that the two Polish teams successfully set a new record for the most-played rounds in a single series.
The previous record was held by MOUZ and HellRaisers when they faced each other in 2015. What made the new feat more interesting is that PGE Turow and ThunderFlash’s series saw each map having at least 30 rounds played.
Furthermore, Vertigo, Anubis, and Mirage were all decided in overtime to get a winner. PGE Turow won on Ancient with a 16-14 score, while ThunderFlash won Inferno with the same result.
The final was played over a period of six and a half hours to finish with 1,183 eliminations from both teams during the series.
PGE Turow’s efforts emerging as winners will see them earn prize money worth $8,300. The emergence of CS2 may leave the record in the hands of ThunderFlash and PGE Turow as the two teams to have played the most-played rounds in a single CS:GO series.
The exact date has not been revealed or leaked so far regarding the upcoming title of the CS2, which is expected to drop sometime this summer.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of the CS2, Cloud9 is targeting two NAVI players to join their roster for Counter-Strike 2, which is expected for a worldwide release in the summer.
In a move that will be a wholesale roster shuffle, the North American organization is considering the removal of Hobbit and Timur “buster” Tulepov while also interested in signing NAVI star duo electroNic and Perfecto.
