Primal Creatures

The Celestials are mysterious, elemental beings with unknown origin. They are able to manifest incredible control over the elements, whether by focusing on just one, or by being able to master multiple.

There aren’t many who are known, but it seems that the Wailing Mountains – the location of the ancient Order of the Oyo – is where some adopted their physical form, perhaps indicating a specific link to the area.

The Celestials currently known are the Spirit Brothers – Xin, Kaolin and Raijin – along with the half-celestial Mangix, and his father.

Fury of the Storm

Raijin Thunderkeg, the Storm Spirit, is an incredibly jovial and energetic creature. He is also as electric as the lightning into which he can turn himself.

However, Raijin was not always this way. His personality belonged to a mere elementalist by the name of Thunderkeg. He lived in the plains just beyond the Wailing Mountains with his people, who were suffering from a terrible drought and famine. Knowing they would die without any outside assistance, he attempted to use a forbidden spell to summon the spirit of the storm, the Storm Celestial Raijin, to bring rain.

Enraged that such a mortal would have the temerity to ask a god like him for anything, the Celestial began to lay waste to the land, bombarding it with wind and flood, making it impossible to live upon. No match for the angry spirit, and with no other options open to him, Thunderkeg cast a spell to bind them together, effectively committing suicide by trapping the rampaging Celestial within his own body.

Although the elementalist did die, the creature that emerged was a combination of both individuals, the jovial nature and good humour of Thunderkeg alongside the incredible power and electric energy of Raijin.

He named himself Raijin Thunderkeg after his two original forms. Now walking the world in physical form, the Celestial brings both his physical and social energy to every battle, proving he is the Spirit of the Storm.

Energetic Relations

As a Celestial, he shares ancestry with his brothers Kaolin and Xin, along with the Brewmaster, Mangix. They all enjoy good relations, appearing to be quite friendly with one another. This is to the point that the Brewmaster mourns Storm Spirit’s loss even if they end up opposed in the Battle of the Ancients.

However, not all creatures share such positive feelings for the Storm Spirit.

Most notable of these is Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. He certainly has a notable dislike for Raijin and his brothers, with them having imprisoned him in the Eternal Crucible in an attempt to purge him of his powers. After this had failed due to the monkey becoming stronger and escaping, they resorted to chaining him beneath a mountain, imprisoning him for 500 years in order to teach him humility and to punish him for his crimes.

Another individual who feels animosity towards Raijin is Razor, the Lightning Revenant. This possibly dates back to before the merging due to Razor’s comment about the Storm Spirit being his oldest enemy. Indeed, this rivalry may stem from the Revenant stealing his electric power from natural storms, effectively taking power from the Celestial himself and infringing on his elemental domain.
